ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR TECHNICAL SERVICES

RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan, coordinate, and supervise Technical Services Department activities including cataloging, acquisitions, fiscal accounting, and government documents; oversee department workflow and supervise librarians and paraprofessionals; compile statistics; monitor and maintain automated systems and databases; teach Library Media course (cataloging and classification using DDC and Sears) as required; provide reference assistance and share evening and weekend duties with other librarians.

QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred: An ALA-accredited MLS; however, a Master’s degree in an Information Technology related field with academic library experience is acceptable, with the understanding of obtaining the MLS degree within 2 years. Cataloging experience that demonstrates understanding of standards, knowledge of trends in bibliographic control and library systems. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Must be able to work effectively with staff, faculty, students, and community. Demonstrated skills in organizational leadership and competence in management, supervision, and administration.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Competitive and dependent on experience. Faculty status, non-tenure track. Continued employment expected based on performance. Standard benefits package, including TIAA-CREF or Virginia State Retirement System.
